Lyrics (As requested):<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>A long long time ago,<\/p>\n<p>I can still remember how<\/p>\n<p>Trig. tables used to take awhile.<\/p>\n<p>I knew if I had my chance that<\/p>\n<p>I could make my slide-rule dance<\/p>\n<p>and make my teacher happy for a while.<\/p>\n<p>But teaching high school made me quiver<\/p>\n<p>and every quiz that I delivered;<\/p>\n<p>Bad grades on the papers<\/p>\n<p>stunk worse than marker vapors.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t remember if I cried when I<\/p>\n<p>learned I had to teach applied (math)<\/p>\n<p>but something touched me deep inside<\/p>\n<p>the day we sang of Pi.<\/p>\n<p>CHORUS:<\/p>\n<p>Circumference divided by diameter&#8217;s Pi.<\/p>\n<p>Whoever noticed that was a really smart guy.<\/p>\n<p>The kids I have in algebra they often ask &#8220;Why<\/p>\n<p>do we have to learn this stuff&#8221;, then they cry<\/p>\n<p>I say &#8220;You won&#8217;t learn it if you don&#8217;t try.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Did you bring your book of Math? and<\/p>\n<p>do you follow the college path<\/p>\n<p>if your teacher tells you so?<\/p>\n<p>Now do your insides get nice and warm<\/p>\n<p>when you use the slope-intercept form<\/p>\n<p>and can you tell me where the first dot goes?<\/p>\n<p>Well, I know you love two-column proofs<\/p>\n<p>and your GPA is through the roof.<\/p>\n<p>You got a TI-89.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;re graphin&#8217; parabolas and lines.<\/p>\n<p>Well I really dig Geometry.<\/p>\n<p>Ditto for Trigonometry,<\/p>\n<p>but I&#8217;m absolutely filled with glee<\/p>\n<p>the day we sang of Pi.<\/p>\n<p>We started singing:<\/p>\n<p>CHORUS<\/p>\n<p>I taught a boy whose grades were great.<\/p>\n<p>Asked him if he could integrate.<\/p>\n<p>He just smiled and said &#8220;no doubt&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Then I went down to the old school store<\/p>\n<p>where I bought some pencils years before<\/p>\n<p>but the girl there said the lead had all run out.<\/p>\n<p>And in the halls the freshmen scream,<\/p>\n<p>the sophomores laugh and the juniors dream.<\/p>\n<p>The seniors soon graduating &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>their hearts are palpitating.<\/p>\n<p>And the things that I think are most cool<\/p>\n<p>like Newton and Pythagorus&#8217;s rule<\/p>\n<p>is stuff that I learned back in school<\/p>\n<p>when I first heard about Pi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dave Stuewer, a Physics teacher, sings a song he wrote for Pi Day, 2007.
